Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, we recommend you put them on the top shelf and wash it on a low-temperature cycle.

You should wash your dog's food bowl after every meal. You can wash their water bowl less frequently, but you will need to completely empty, sanitize and refill it at least once per week. Water bowls tend to collect a slimy build-up called biofilm, which allows harmful bacteria to take over and this can be harful over time.

The food bowl should only be as large as necessary for a pet's snout to comfortably lick or grab the food. No dog, not even a Mastiff, needs a 9 inch diameter food bowl. Chihuahuas, toy poodles, and cats need a food bowl the size of a tiny dessert parfait cup.

We have different sizes of bowls for Dogs & Cats and depending on the breeds.
Many owners tend to overfeed dogs when using a large bowl. Over time, this can contribute to pet obesity. For this reason, choose the right size bowl for your puppy and feed the appropriate amount, using a measuring cup.

While a larger bowl does not affect the dog or cat, it is however physcological to add more food to the bowl.

We only range natural material for our dog collars & leashes.  Being natural material, they breathe and also dont rub against the dogs or cats.

Our natural collars are made from Hemp, Cotton or leather.

Yes, it is. Dog collars are not dangerous in any way if you attach them correctly. Just make sure that it's not too tight or loose, and your dog will be just fine. You should take it off only if your dog starts losing hair and coat around the neck.

Always supervise when on a collar in case it gets caught on something,

A "quick release" collar is a dog collar with a buckle, that pops open when the sides of the buckle are pressed. The buckle on this type of collar is often referred to as a "side-release" or "snap on" dog collar. A quick release collar is the ideal choice for those that want a perfect fit, unlike the irregular fit of a traditional buckle collar. A quick release dog collar is also lightweight and comfortable for your dog.

That's a tough one to answer because every dog is different - however it all boils down to three factors: breed, lifestyle and behavior. These factors will determine what type of collar will work best for your dog.

The most accurate way of getting the proper fit for your dogs collar is to measure his/her neck with a soft measuring tape. Another way is to use a strip of paper, and mark the length with a pen/pencil, and then lay the marked paper against a straight rule or ruler. Always remember to add 2 inches to accommodate for hair growth, weight changes, etc.

If your dog is a puppy, add several more inches for growth. You will still likely need an "adult" collar when your pup reaches 4-6 months or so. The larger the breed, the sooner you will need a larger collar for your growing pup!

Yes, your lucky dog will be grateful if you switch when you can. We recommend switching over the course of a few days and phasing them onto any new food.

Our recipes are super digestible and transition period minimises the chance of any stomach upsets as they adjust to a new nutritious diet.

Yes, you can. You don’t need to as our healthy kibble is bursting with nutrients and flavour, however, if your dog prefers a mix then our biscuits mix well. You can always try mixing a little water with our biscuits to make a meaty gravy.

All of our ingredients are healthy and natural. Our food doesn’t come with a human grade certification so we do not recommend it for humans. That’s not to say that some of the team haven’t given it a taste test.

When stored in a cool, dry place and the bag is resealed, our dry food stays fresh for roughly 4 weeks once opened. As we use fresh ingredients, food does need to be stored correctly.

To make sure it stays fresh, Dog Food should be stored in a cool and dry place. We recommend storing it in an airtight container or resealing the bag between meals, to lock in all those lovely flavours and smells.

The amount of food that your dog needs will vary according to their age, size and activity level.

It is important to feed them a suitable amount of food daily so they get the right amount of energy and nutrients he needs while maintaining a healthy weight.

Each brand of dog food has a recomendation for the weight of the dog.  These are a great starting guide.

The best toys for your dogs are the ones that are made from natural products like Hemp, Bamboo, Rubber or cotton etc. to ensure they dont harm your dog and also not a choking hazard.

Toys should also be designed to allow for play, comfort and safety.

Some toys promote physical & mental stimulation, other toys help with socialising.

Also, there are toys that help in fostering good health, for instance, those designed for cleaning and strengthening the teeth.

We have a great range of Natural Rubber toys from Beco, Frogg & Kong.  They are tough toys which promote interactivity and play time.

Our tough rubber toys are made from natural rubber, tapped from the trunk of rubber trees. Then blended mixed with rice husk, a by-product from rice farming.

Being natural rubber, they are not harmful to your dog.

Always supervise play time.

We recommend consulting a vet if your dog ingests any part of any of our products (except the food).

Sadly not. Natural rubber has lots of amazing qualities, but buoyancy is not one.

Our toys are designed to be as strong as possible, sadly no toy is indestructible. We recommend supervising your pet when they are playing with any toys.

Yes, always replace your toy at the first sign of wearing or damage. Tears and other damage can affect the toys strength and durability, making it less safe for your pet.

If you're not sure, you can always give us a call at HTP. Some of our toys come with a guarantee, so you could get a free replacement.

We recommend consulting a vet if your dog ingests any part of any of our products (except our food, of course).

Our rope toys are made from hemp or a hemp/recycled cotton blend rope. Hemp is antibacterial and can help to clean your dog’s teeth.

Yes. And most dogs love it! Peanut butter is packed with protein and contains healthy fats, niacin, vitamin B, and vitamin E, all of which contribute to your dog’s overall health.

Added ingredients can cause unwanted side effects, so be sure to read your peanut butter label. Xylitol, a sugar substitute, is toxic to dogs. This is a particularly tricky ingredient because xylitol can show up in peanut butter advertised as sugar-free. As a sugar alcohol, xylitol can lead to a big drop in blood sugar levels (also known as xylitol poisoning), which can be life-threatening, causing seizures, liver failure, and worse.

So, if peanut butter is only safe for our dogs in small amounts, how much is the right amount for our dogs to have? It will depend on the size of your dog. But, ideally, treats should make up no more than 10% of your dog’s diet. And, even then, peanut butter shouldn’t be the only treat that you offer.

You can indeed, so long as it is a well managed compost bin that is used to feed non-edible plants. You just need to make sure that your compost heap reaches high enough temperatures to stop the bacteria in your dog's poop.

While no dog chew is 100 percent safe, some are especially dangerous. Indigestible chews like hard plastic or nylon chews: As a rule, any chew that is indigestible has a high chance of causing a gastrointestinal blockage or indigestion at the very least.

At HTP, we only range all natural chews made from Single Ingredient and slowly dired.

How Often Should I Give My Dog A Chew? It's reasonable to allow your dog to chew daily depending on which long term-chew you are offering. If a long-term chew is high in calories, it's best to limit the frequency to only a few times a week

Whether you have a puppy, a senior, or a dog with dental problems, pig ears are long lasting, but easy to chew. Pig ears are also an excellent source of glucosamine and chondroitin, which can help relieve painful joint conditions such as osteoarthritis

With a slow-drying process to remove the moisture from the quality products we source, resulting in an amplified flavor profile irresistible to pets. This process is all-natural with no added chemicals or additives.

Just as humans take nutritional supplements to keep them strong and healthy, pet supplements do the same for your pet. Food alone may not provide all the nutrients that your pet needs to stay well and live a long, happy life. By adding quality supplements to your pet’s foods, you provide your pet with the best and most healthy quality of life possible. Pet supplements can also treat certain medical conditions that you dog my experience.

When adding supplements to your pet’s diet, it is important to follow the advice of a veterinary or animal nutritionist. Pet supplements provide wonderful benefits to your pet, but too much could result in a nutritional imbalance. An experienced pet nutritionist or veterinarian will help you formulate a balanced diet accompanied by the ideal pet supplements.

While you and your pet may take a similar supplement, it is best to give your dog or cat a supplement designed for pet consumption. Human supplements may contain ingredients that are harmful to your pet or are difficult for them to absorb. Additionally, human supplement doses may be too large for your cat or dog. Supplements that are created specifically for pets are always the best choice for your cat or dog.

There are several reasons to add fish oil to your pet’s balanced diet. Fish oil can help keep your pet’s heart stay strong and healthy. It can also reduce inflammation in the skin that causes flakiness and itchiness, leaving your pet’s fur shiny and healthy. Fish oil is also known to boost your pet’s immune system and even help fight against cancer. For pets who have allergies and joint pain, fish oil can also help alleviate both.

Pet supplements come in various forms, including powder, liquid, treats, and pills. You can choose the best form that is the easiest to administer to your pet. Many pet owners prefer powder or liquid form because it can easily be added to the pet’s food. Treats are also a great option as well. If you choose to administer your pet supplement in a pill form, try hiding the pill in a food that your pet enjoys.

The easiest way to determine if a pet supplement is working is by noting beneficial results from the use. For example, if your pet has itchy, flaky skin that resolves after giving fish oil, then the supplement is likely working. You can also work with your pet nutritionist and veterinarian to monitor the effectiveness of some pet supplements through bloodwork.
